Two
online polls were held in January and February 2001 for four categories
at http://www.indiantelevision.com. At the end of it all, the winners
were selected.
TV CEO of the Year
Peter Mukerjea
For his stellar performance in motivating his team and taking Star
Plus to the numero uno position in the cable and satellite television
sweepstakes, Mukerjea won this poll hands down.
Peter
Mukerjea spoke to indiantelevision.com soon after being declared
the Indian Telly TV Executive for the Year 2000
TV
Personality of The Year
Amitabh Bachchan
There were no doubts who would win this award. The Amitabh Bachchan
persona and Kaun Banega Crorepati led the turnaround at the Star
Plus. Kudos to Mr Bachchan.
TV Channel of the Year
DD Metro
DD Metro had been sinking until Channel Nine India got hold of the
three hour block. The new programming was slick, the promotions
were great, and DD Metro got a look like it never had before. It
looked like a privately-run cable and satellite television channel.
This winner surprised everyone as Star Plus was expected to walk
away with the honours.
The MSO of the Year
Seven Star
This independent operator in Mumbai's northern suburb of Vile Parle-Juhu-Andheri
can teach a lot of big players what a cable operation should be
like. The cable TV network has an addressable system in place, it
offers niche western channels to subscribers and also offers value-added
services like Internet over cable which really work. No wonder it
emerged victorious in the MSO of the year poll.
